Kirsty Hall

Senior Programme Manager – Auckland

I have always had a strong passion for children and being an educator to triplets made me aware that I wanted to proceed in Early Childhood Education and make a career out of extending and developing children’s ideas and theories. I spent the next 3 years studying at the University of Waikato for my Bachelors in Education in ECE and then came back to Auckland to teach. Teaching runs through my family as my mother has been a primary teacher for over 20 years!

I have spent 2 ½ years working with 3-year-olds in a Reggio Inspired centre. The opportunity arose to become a Program Coordinator and I was excited to start this new chapter in my life. I believe that children learn their most important life skills in their early years and what better place to learn these than in the home environment. I have been working for Playschool since July 2010. I am excited and humbled for the opportunity to come into people’s homes and visit families and be a resource to them. I love meeting with families and sharing those ‘magic moments’ with the children and their educators alike and watching as these children grow and develop. Playschool is a great resource to use when extending your child’s learning.

Home-based care is a stimulating opportunity for children as it allows them to learn in a familiar environment where they feel loved and nurtured.

Kushla Ryan

Senior Programme Manager – Auckland

Whilst training for my Diploma through distance learning, I worked as a Teacher in a well-known centre, KinderCare learning Centre, in Henderson. This gave me my foundations for excellence in child care and education. After completing my Diploma I wanted to find out and experience other childcare services so I thought it felt like a great time for the change so I made the decision to move to a new centre (Apples Childcare and Learning Centre). A few months into the role I was appointed Headteacher of the Pre-school room from ages 3-4, I had a blast in this role, I enjoyed working alongside families and their children, trying to achieve the best possible care and education in an aesthetically, warm and inviting setting.

Reflecting on my own childhood is what started to develop my interest in home-based childcare; I wanted to find out how I, as a teacher, could help support families and Educators further develop children’s learning while being cared for at home. From here I joined the team at Playschool as a Programme Co-ordinator and I am now able to help out with all sorts of questions and further extend children in their natural environment of home! I enjoy my visits with my families and I love seeing how the children are progressing. My personal philosophy incorporates, learning through a safe, happy and fun environment with added help along the way when needed. Playschool allows me to utilise my philosophy everytime I step through the door of one of the children I oversee. I am grateful for this opportunity to work alongside the families, friends and staff here at Play-School!

Sarah Terblanche

Senior Programme Co-ordinator – Auckland

Kia-ora Families, Whanau, Educators, and Tamariki.

My name is Sarah and I am an experienced and committed fully registered and qualified Early Childhood Teacher with a teaching
and mentoring background in both home-based education, as well as centre-based ECE.

I have had the privilege to work alongside many children and their families over the last seven years in a range of diverse settings, as well as having the opportunity to mentor, support, and guide teachers through their studies and practicum placements.

My journey began as a new graduate teacher working in centre-based early childhood centres in 2012. After five years of centre-based teaching, I discovered my passion for Homebased Education where I was a Nanny for two families over two years. I was eager to attain and continue a leadership role where I could continue to support and guide Teachers. I have been a Homebased Coordinator and Visiting Teacher for one year and I believe I have found my passion within this type of role.

I feel privileged and very excited to be part of the awesome team here at Playschool Education, and I look forward to meeting you all and building relationships with you and your family.

Jessica Li

Senior Programme Co-ordinator – Auckland

Kia Ora whanau, my name is Jessica. I am originally from China and I began my journey as an early childhood teacher in 2017 when I started my Graduate Diploma with New Zealand Tertiary College. I am now a qualified and registered ECE teacher and have been working in childcare centres ever since. I have decided to make a change and switch from centre-based to a home-based childcare service as I find it is meaningful to provide advice and guidance to parents and educators who support the learning and development of their tamariki at home. A familiar environment always means that children feel more secured and have a stronger sense of belonging. This is also where I could utilize my own knowledge, skill as well as experience to assist them. My personal teaching philosophy believes that it is important for tamariki to learn at their own pace to develop to full potential and I am glad that Playschool offers this opportunity to families, whanau, and tamariki. I look forward to meeting our lovely children and educators and working cooperatively to achieve this goal.

Kia Ora Whanau!

My name is Avon Esplana-Paz. I have been working in Early Childhood Education for about 15 years now. I started as a reliever in a centre in Parnell and then worked at Bear Park Henderson, while finishing my degree in Early Childhood Education at Unitec Institute of Technology.

I live with my husband and I am a mum to a 17 year old girl, Sophia, and two fur (cat) babies, Fabio and Louis.

My practice is inspired by Reggio Emilia and RIE philosophy.  I believe that children deserve to be in a safe environment where they are encouraged to actively explore and learn.

I previously worked for Playschool Education six years ago, so this is more like coming back home. I love working alongside people who are also passionate about helping the tamariki and their whanau to provide quality education and care.

It is nice to be back home. I look forward to meeting you and your whanau.

Annemarieke Adams

Programme Co-ordinator – Canterbury

My name is Annemarieke, and it is a joy to be the Programme Coordinator for the Canterbury region at Playschool Education! I started out my Bachelor’s Degree in Primary Education but soon found I enjoyed teaching but was more drawn to individualised teaching and relationships. So, after 2 years of study, I transferred my degree to Early Childhood to study a further 2 years to complete my Bachelor of Teaching and Learning. I have been a qualified and registered teacher since 2007 and I have worked in a variety of Early Childhood Centres in Canterbury working with different age groups and lived and worked in a centre on the West Coast for a couple of years.

I consider it an honor and a privilege to be working with many different whanau and Educators within the Playschool Education family. I am excited for my role – encouraging and supporting Playschool Educators, being a part of their own journey as they grow and build relationships with the whanau and tamariki they are working with. I get a buzz out of seeing their confidence and relationships grow and believe this is my role as a coordinator, supporting them to be the best they can be for our whanau and providing a fun educational programme for our tamariki.

Both my husband and I are born and raised in Christchurch but enjoyed the move out of town to live the rural lifestyle. We now live close to Christchurch but still in a rural setting. My husband and I have two lovely young daughters and outside of work we enjoy spending time together beekeeping, going to church, visiting extended family, playing board games, visiting the West Coast and having a poke around a good old second hand shop for hidden treasures!

It is fantastic to be a part of such a great team at Playschool Education and I look forward to meeting you and getting to know you more soon!

Kirk Anderson

Business Development Manager

After my eldest child was born, I became passionate about neuroscience and child development. It soon became obvious to me that the most crucial years of a developing child are between the years of 0-6. Now I have the opportunity to find families, with children of this age, eligible for our fantastic programs and services.

Prior to embarking on this amazing journey with Playschool, I studied Sport Science and then owned and operated a successful personal training company for 15 years. Over that time, I became very proficient in organising systems and processes, and building long lasting relationships. Attributes I am hoping to bring across to the Playschool Group.

My wife and I have 2 fantastic boys (sometimes 😊) aged 8 and 5. Whom we are very proud of, and that keep us both very busy, and constantly on our toes. I cherish the time that I get to spend with them, and it reminds me why our programs are so crucial to many families.

To be able to help families find a solution to their child’s educational needs and development is an honour. Especially knowing the programs that we offer are of such high quality and in-line with my own personal philosophies.

I feel very blessed and extremely excited to be able to follow my passion, and to work alongside such driven, hardworking individuals.

Carissa Vaudrey

Founder of Playschool

As a mother of twins, I found myself awake at night concerned that Casen and Macy’s Nanny had nobody to fall back on for advice on how best to nurture and educate the twins. Despite being enrolled in a home-based care service I felt that the individual learning needs of my children were being overlooked and what we had been promised was not what was delivered. From this disappointment, Playschool (my third baby) was born.

My number 1 goal with Playschool, from the word go, was to empower each child with the tools and equipment necessary to grow in mind and spirit in every way possible. With help from a great support and management team, I use my training in childcare, art and business studies to provide a fun and professional service that believes each child is unique and special.

Playschool is large enough to offer a wealth of knowledge and equipment but also small enough to care.
